Type of a scam Online Purchase

My family and I were interested in purchasing a sphynx kitten on July 25, 2018. The scammer was selling the kittens for $500.00 plus $209 for shipping for a total of $709.00. Once we selected the kitten via the website; we were instructed to send the money through monogram from a CVS pharmacy. After I sent him the money he wanted me to provide him with my address, the availability of picking up the kitten at the airport, and finally a copy of my driver’s license so they could give it to the shipping company, which turn out to be a fake ( I will explain later). The following day, July 26, 2018, the kitten was suppose to be shipped to us and we were suppose to pick up the feline at JFK. However, the shipping company sent us an email that the kitten was going to be shipped on a 1:44 PM flight to JFK but I had to send a $1000 via Monogram to an individual at the shipping company to insure the kitten. They would give me the $1000 once the kitten got to the airport. It is as this point where I discover this is a scam ( how can a major shipping company not accept credit cards). I will be reporting my driver’s license lost- I don’t want them using my number for identity theft.
