Type of a scam Rental

I received a message from someone on Roomster.com claiming to be the landlord of an apartment nearby. They offered me a great deal on a unit, but to make an appointment to view the unit I had to pay a refundable deposit of $500. Luckily, I thought to search possible Roomster scams and others have had the same problem and advised to call the apartment to verify. The apartment office told me that they did not have anyone working for them by that name and that by no means should anyone have to pay to view an apartment. She recommended highly against it. Those same apartments also rent for more than double what the other woman was offering. I then messaged the "landlord" back and told her what happened and she asked which office I called; the apartment complex only has one office. I told her to withdraw my inquiry and she just said "bye."
