Type of a scam Employment

Recieved an email from a company claiming to be offering a position with their company as a virtual assistant.

The company became they were using was DFS. The interview was done over handouts chat. Was offered a position and was sent a couple subjects that I needed to write an essay about(still not sure why), then they sent me a cashier’s check for $2450.35 for a computer, software ect..

They were so insistent that I deposit the cashiers check right away that i got even more suspicious more than I already was. So I called the issuing bank and was told the cashiers check was invalid. That it had been issued for a different amount, under a different name and amount.

I was told to send all receipts and deposit slips to Michael Rodgers.

The letter from him stated of with " Hope are you doing? We’re hope this finds you in good health" I found this very strange.
